The Story:

Tom wanted to start a jazz funk band. He told his wife about it. Tom’s wife said he should call this jazz funk band Des Funk. Tom and CJ used to work together. Tom asked CJ if he’d be interested in being in a jazz funk band called Des Funk. CJ said he would. They got together with two guitarists and a bass player. It sounded pretty good. They played together for a few months.  Then the bass player left the band (on good terms, they still consider him a friend). So they started looking for a new bass player. They met Terre, and he played with them. He blew them away, so they asked him to join them. He said yes. But not long after, one of the guitarists left (on good terms, they still consider him a friend). They had the other guitarist, so it was all good. Then they added a trumpeter/vocalist. They played together for a few months. Now they were really starting to sound good. Then the other guitarist left (on good terms, they still consider him a friend). So they started looking for a new guitarist. They met Stephen, and he played with them. He blew them away, so they asked him to join them. He said yes. They played together for a few months. And now they started getting pretty tight. Then the trumpeter/vocalist left (on good terms, they still consider her a friend). So they started looking for a new horn player. Just after that, they met Cecil at an open jam, and he sat in with them. It sounded great. Afterward, he called them “nasty” (in a good way). The band was playing its debut gig in Des Moines (they had just had their first gig in Omaha). Cecil told a sax player about the band. The sax player came to the show and sat in with the band on a few tunes. She blew them away, so they asked her join them. She said yes. And now they were really playing some badass jazz, funk, rock fusion. The band always liked playing with Cecil. He sat in with them several times and always blew them away. So they asked him to join them. He said yes. At this point, Des Funk was getting to be pretty popular, playing places like Noce, Des Moines Yacht Club, The Greenwood, and The Lift. Then the sax player left the band (on good terms, they still consider her a friend). Through it all, Des Funk keeps rolling, making music and having a funky good time.
